Abstract OKU Regency has Tofografi and altitude ranges from 100 to 1000 meters above sea level. OKU Regency form varies from flat to hilly or from 0-2% to above 40%. Dry area that has a slope of less than 15% can be developed for crop year, while the land has slope 15 to 40% annual crops can be developed, while the land that has a greater slope 40% should be left as a forest that serves as a regional water absorption. Type of soil in areas dominated by OKU Regency Podsolik good soil Podsolik Red Yellow, Red yellow and Brown. While climate has a wet tropical climate and the temperature varies between 22 to 31 oC. The development of dryland agriculture often face many obstacles, including land biophysical constraints that are usually closely related to soil conditions are less favorable for plant growth and is an indicator of the low productivity of land. Obstacles include sensitive land erosion and poor sifik properties, chemical and biological soil. Efforts that can be done to improve the productivity of land include: (1) erosion control, (2) improvement of soil physical properties, (3) improvement of soil chemical properties, and (4) improvement of soil biological properties. These efforts need to be comprehensive by taking into account the priority scale, efficiency, and effectiveness of a technology that will be applied. Key words: Productivity of land, dry land
PENDAHULUAN
Indonesia pernah mencapai swasembada beras pada tahun 1984 berkat pelaksanaan program intensifikasi melalui kegiatan peningkatan ketersediaan air irigasi dan penerapan teknologi maju, seperti: pengelolaan tanah yang tepat (penerapan teknik konservasi, pengelolaan bahan organik, pengapuran, pemupukan), penggunaan varietas unggul, pengendalian hama penyakit, penanganan pascapanen, penggunaan alsintan, rekayasa sosial, dan lain-lain.
